Notion AI Pricing: Free vs Plus vs Business 2026
Notion bills for two things separately: the workspace plan and the AI features. The workspace plan sets your collaboration ceiling. The AI add-on unlocks writing assistance, workspace Q&A, and autofill. And if you want autonomous Custom Agents, you will pay a third line item on top of both. Here is exactly what each tier costs, what it includes, and where the hidden expenses show up.
Notion Pricing at a Glance
Notion uses per-seat pricing. Every member of your workspace pays the same rate regardless of how much they use the product. There are no "viewer-only" discounts and no usage tiers within a plan. Understanding this model is essential for teams evaluating AI assistant costs across vendors.
The four workspace tiers work like this: the Free plan costs nothing but caps file uploads at 5 MB and limits page history to 7 days. Plus runs $10/user/month (or $8 annually) and removes most of those restrictions. Business costs $20/user/month (or $15 annually) and adds SSO, advanced permissions, and page analytics. Enterprise uses custom pricing and adds SCIM provisioning, audit logs, and a dedicated customer success manager.
AI features sit on top of these tiers as either an add-on purchase or a usage-based credit system. The workspace plan determines your collaboration features. The AI add-on determines whether your team can use writing tools, Q&A, and autofill. And Notion Credits determine whether autonomous agents run in the background.
The AI Add-On: $10 per Seat per Month
Notion AI is not included in any workspace plan by default. It is a separate $10/member/month charge applied on top of your existing plan. With annual billing, this drops to $8/user/month, a 20% discount.
The add-on unlocks what Notion calls "reactive" AI: features that respond when you prompt them. This includes inline writing assistance (drafting, summarizing, translating, tone adjustment), workspace-wide Q&A search, database autofill, formula generation from plain English, and AI-powered meeting notes with transcription. These capabilities are built on large language models from multiple providers.
The Free plan gives you a limited trial of these reactive features. Once your trial prompts run out, you must purchase the $10/month add-on. There is no middle ground. Notion does not offer a cheaper AI tier with fewer features.

Plan-by-Plan Breakdown
Each tier adds features on top of the previous one. The question is not just "which plan do I need?" but "what does each tier cost after adding AI?"

Download Free →Notion Credits: How Custom Agent Billing Works
Custom Agents are Notion's autonomous AI workflows. They run 24/7 in the background, triggered by database changes, schedules, or Slack messages. They launched on February 24, 2026, with a free exploration period that ended May 3, 2026.
Since May 4, 2026, Custom Agents require Notion Credits. Credits cost $10 per 1,000 and are purchased separately by workspace admins on Business or Enterprise plans.
Credit rules: Credits are pooled across your entire workspace, billed monthly, and reset at the start of each billing cycle. They do not roll over. If your workspace runs out of credits, all Custom Agents pause immediately. Scheduled runs during the outage are skipped and do not execute retroactively once credits are restored.
What Drives Credit Consumption
Notion does not publish a fixed per-action rate card. Credit consumption varies based on three factors, influenced by the underlying prompt engineering of each agent's instructions:
- Task complexity: A simple agent that reads a Slack message and creates a task uses far fewer credits than one that searches multiple databases, evaluates urgency, creates sub-pages, and sends notifications.
- Processing volume: The amount of data the agent reads and the number of tools it uses in a single run directly increase consumption.
- AI model choice: Advanced models (like Claude Opus or GPT-5) consume the most credits. Lighter models like GPT-5.4 mini or open-weight options like MiniMax M2.5 use significantly fewer credits and run faster.
Notion provides an admin dashboard at Settings > Notion AI > Notion Credits with real-time tracking, 80%/100% usage alerts, anomalous spend detection, and per-agent spending breakdowns. You can also set per-agent execution caps to prevent runaway costs.

Total Cost of Ownership: What Teams Actually Pay
The sticker price on Notion's pricing page tells only part of the story. For a team evaluating Notion AI, the real question is: what does the monthly bill look like after stacking workspace seats, AI add-ons, and agent credits?
| Scenario | Workspace | AI Add-On | Credits | Monthly Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Solo user, Free + AI | $0 | $10 | -- | $10 |
| 5-person team, Plus + AI | $50 | $50 | -- | $100 |
| 20-person team, Business + AI | $400 | $200 | -- | $600 |
| 20-person team, Business + AI + Agents | $400 | $200 | $50 est. | $650 |
| 50-person team, Business + AI (annual) | $750 | $400 | -- | $1,150 |
Monthly billing shown unless noted. Annual billing reduces workspace cost by ~25% and AI add-on by 20%. Agent credit estimates assume moderate usage; actual costs vary by complexity.
The annual billing discount is significant. A 50-person Business team paying monthly spends $1,500/month ($50/seat for workspace + AI). The same team billed annually pays $1,150/month ($23/seat). That is a $4,200 annual savings.
What the Pricing Does Not Cover

Which Plan Should You Pick?
The right Notion plan depends on three questions: how many people need AI features, whether you need autonomous agents, and whether your organization requires compliance certifications. Teams subject to AI governance requirements should also factor in the plan-level differences in audit logging and data controls.
Solo Users and Freelancers
Start with the Free plan and try the limited AI trial. If you find yourself using AI writing, Q&A, or summarization regularly, add the $10/month AI add-on. Total cost: $10/month. You do not need Plus unless you need larger file uploads or longer page history.
Small Teams (5-15 People)
The Plus plan with AI is the practical starting point. At $20/user/month ($10 Plus + $10 AI), you get unlimited collaboration, 30-day history, and full AI features. Annual billing drops this to $16/user/month. Custom Agents are not available on Plus, so if automation is important, evaluate whether the jump to Business is worth it.
Growing Companies (15-50+ People)
The Business plan becomes necessary when you need SSO, advanced permissions, or Custom Agents. At $30/user/month ($20 Business + $10 AI), the per-seat cost is steep. Budget for 5,000-10,000 credits ($50-$100/month) if you plan to run multiple agents. Annual billing brings per-seat cost down to $23.
Regulated Industries
Enterprise is the only option if you need HIPAA BAAs, SCIM provisioning, data residency controls, or audit logs. Notion holds SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001, and HIPAA certifications. Organizations operating under the EU AI Act should verify that Notion's compliance certifications cover their specific use-case classifications.
