Google Gemini
Google's multimodal AI, built into Search, Workspace, and the cloud
What's New
What Is Google Gemini?
Gemini is Google's family of multimodal AI models. Built from the ground up to process text, images, audio, video, and code natively in a single architecture, unlike earlier models that added vision as a retrofitted adapter. That architectural decision matters: Gemini doesn't translate between modalities; it reasons across them from the start.
Gemini exists in three distinct contexts: as a consumer chatbot at gemini.google.com, as AI features embedded in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Gmail, Meet), and as an API for developers building on Google Cloud. These are different products sharing the same underlying models. A Gemini 3.1 Pro API call and the Gemini assistant on your Pixel phone are powered by related but differently optimized variants.
The current flagship, Gemini 3.1 Pro (February 2026), scored 77.1% on ARC-AGI-2, more than doubling the performance of its predecessor. Apple announced plans to integrate Gemini into Siri in January 2026. The Gemini 3 series crossed 1,500 Elo on LMArena, the first model family to reach that threshold. These are not incremental updates; the performance gap between the 2.x and 3.x series was significant enough to prompt OpenAI to accelerate its next-generation model development.
