Adobe Research Unveils MotionStream: Real-Time Object and Camera Control for AI-Generated Video

Adobe Research has unveiled MotionStream, an experimental technology that lets video creators direct object movement and camera angles in real time while AI video is being generated - replacing the prompt-and-wait loop that currently defines AI video workflows. The research preview is publicly available as of April 10, 2026.

Right now, AI video creation works like this: write a prompt, wait tens of seconds, watch what the model generates, decide it’s wrong, and start over. Every change means a restart. Every restart means more waiting. The creative loop is interrupted at every step.

MotionStream is built to break that loop.

According to Adobe Research’s announcement, MotionStream lets creators interact with AI-generated video while it’s being created. Cursor movements and sliders direct the movement of specific objects. Camera angles change on demand. Latency is reduced compared to current generative video tools. The creative doesn’t wait for the model, the model responds to the creative in real time.

This is a research preview, not a shipping product. Adobe hasn’t announced integration into Premiere Pro, After Effects, or any production tool. The technology is experimental. That framing matters and it should stay visible: what Adobe Research has published is a demonstration of what the workflow could become, not what it is today.

What the workflow change actually means

The difference between prompt-and-wait and real-time interaction isn’t incremental. It’s a different relationship between the creator and the tool.

Current AI video generation is closer to commissioning than directing. You describe what you want, you receive an approximation, you adjust the description, you wait again. The feedback loop is long. Control is indirect. The creator’s expertise in the craft of video, timing, camera movement, object blocking, has nowhere to go because the interface doesn’t support it.

MotionStream proposes an interface that makes those skills usable. A cinematographer’s instinct for camera movement can be applied in real time. An editor’s sense of object timing can shape generation as it happens. That’s a fundamentally different user model, and if it reaches production quality it changes who can work effectively with AI video tools, expanding from people who write good prompts to people who understand good video.

The researcher’s own framing

Eli Shechtman, Senior Principal Scientist at Adobe Research, puts it directly: “I see MotionStream as a big change in how people could control video in the future.” The conditional framing, “could control”, is appropriate for research-stage work and worth preserving in any summary. This is a demonstration of technical possibility, not a product roadmap.

What to watch

Watch for independent reproduction of the real-time latency claims, the research is publicly available and the creative technology community will test it quickly. Watch also for whether Adobe incorporates MotionStream’s interaction model into its production tools, and on what timeline. The research publication is the first step; the integration announcement would be the one that changes practitioner workflows.
